ISLANDS
The Islands paintings are abstractions of found shapes. Changing environmental conditions cause asphalt to form hills and valleys. Depressions in the tarmac catch rainwater and form puddles. If it’s cloudy or sunny, the color of these shapes and the surrounding asphalt changes.  This series reveals the tension between figure and ground caused by changing natural light. The stenciled glossy shapes outline rainwater’s topography on contrasting matte backgrounds.
